The Bakawan (Mangrove) Nature Park features elevated pathways. Visitors can walk thru the mangrove forest without disturbing the (tidal area) flora and fauna. As mangroves are environmentally important ecosystems, touring the area is educationally rewarding. Patient observers can expect to see Fiddler Crabs, Mud Skippers, and bird species that are never seen in urban environments.

Playing Fields - Basketball-cum-tennis court is available for use. Beach volleyball – at least 3 playing areas with nets, sand courts and balls are provided. Flying Fox adventure rides are also available. Wide-open spaces for games – tug-of-war, relay races, and other similar group activities make the Picnic Area an ideal venue for large groups.

Aquatic/Marine Sports - Available for visitors’ use, a variety of aquatic sports equipment - mask, fins, and snorkels, ocean kayaks, pedal boats, sailboats, light-tackle fishing equipment. Bancas can be hired from the local fishermen.

Beach and Swimming Conditions - The off-beach swimming area is shallow water with no undertow or other serious hazards. At low tide, swimmers and snorkelers can walk 100 or so meters on clear sand beach very close to a coral reef drop-off to 10 to 15 feet deep then gradually deeper seawards. Colorful reef fish and even marine turtles may be seen in the area.

The reef drop-off runs westwards towards the LCG Main Resort. As the water is shallow, right up to the drop-off, it is easy to go from deep – 10 to 20 feet of water – to the drop-off ledge where a snorkeler will find resting points.

Safety - Large, particularly company groups are concerned with safety and emergency response conditions. When in operation, lifeguards and outlook posts are maintained. Emergency medical supplies and personnel with basic first-aid training are available. Some company groups have required professional medical staff and a dedicated first-aid station to be set up. Such can be arranged with prior notice and extra cost.

In situations that require more than basic first aid, emergency medical facilities are available in San Juan town proper or less than a 20-minute drive from the Picnic Area.
